The Shah Deniz field is a high pressure gas-condensate field located in the Azerbaijan sector of the Caspian Sea. The field is approximately 21 km long and 10 km wide.
Shah Deniz Stage 1 (SD1) entered the operate phase with first gas achieved during the fourth quarter of 2006. SD1, via the Alpha (SDA) Platform, provides production from the Shah Deniz reservoir via dry trees. SD1 is a ‘localised, stand-alone’ development with little opportunity, beyond limited debottlenecking opportunities, to increase production beyond the originally planned 900 mmscfd.
The Shah Deniz Stage 2 (SD2) development consists of a series of subsea manifolds and associated well clusters tied back to the fixed Shah Deniz Bravo (SDB) platform complex by flowlines. The manifolds are located on the north, west and east flanks of the field development area.
The SDB platform complex currently includes a Production and Risers platform (SDB-PR), where the well production fluids will be processed and exported to the onshore terminal via separate gas and liquid pipelines, and a Quarters and Utilities (SDB-QU) platform, bridge linked to SDB-PR.
The SD2 development will also include expansion of the onshore processing terminal at Sangachal Terminal and will require expansion of the South Caucasus Pipeline (SCP) gas export system. The SCP midstream facilities (downstream of the Sangachal Terminal) are not included in the Shah Deniz PSA and will be developed and financed separately as the SCP Expansion (SCPX) project.
The Shah Deniz Stage 2 Platforms for the preferred hydrate management option are summarized as follows:-SDB-PR – Production and Riser platform at SD West (PPW) location; SDB-QU – Living Quarters and Utility Platform Bridge linked to SDB-PR.
The SDB-PR and SDB-QU platforms will follow the concept successfully employed several times on ACG Phases 1, 2 & 3 in the Caspian Sea. Both platforms will be linked by a bridge similar to that used on ACG Phase3. The platforms will be supported on 8 legged barge launched jackets, configured to allow the passage of the STB-1 barge through the central slot for the installation of the Topsides by the Floatover method. The Topside primary trusses will follow the previous ACG configuration. Both Topsides will be jacked up onto the existing LOF and skidded onto the STB-1 for transportation to the field.
The SDB-PR platform will receive the flowlines from the subsea developments and contain the export lines for gas and condensate, processing facilities and the flare boom. In total, the SDB-PR jacket will support 16 no. risers and 1 no. utility caisson.
The SDB-QU platform will contain the living quarters, power generation and utilities. In total, the SDB-QU jacket will support 3 no. j-tube caissons, 7 no. utility caissons and 31 j-tubes.
The design life for all the facilities is 30 years
